What sources or authorities can you use to try and correct this misinformation?
How to Debunk Misinformation
In your response, begin to compose a debunking, or alternate post, that seeks to correct the misinformation. Your debunking post doesn’t necessarily need to directly address the content of the misinformation post– you can elect to engage in education of the scientific method, or other surrounding issues.
Remember to use the guidelines set out by the readings for debunking. Go over them again before starting to compose your reply post. Again, your replies can be fairly open-ended. You need not need to answer all these questions directly, but use them to guide your response:
How can you appeal to the kind of audience this post seems to be trying to reach? Are there segments of the audience you don’t think you can reach?
What sources or authorities can you use to try and correct this misinformation?
What information can you post instead?
How would share your content? How can you get it to reach a wide audience?
How can you appeal to the same audience that the misinformation post appeals to?
If the misinformation post doesn’t accurately represent the sources it cites, how can you critically engage with these sources? How can you encourage your audience to do the same?
