• Approximately 1 page in length.
• Before you start this section try to get a “feel” for the main problem. Some places to look for the key problem are:
o case questions,
o what the key players are grappling with, or
o what is included at the start or at the end of the case.
• Open with a profile paragraph. Impress upon your client you know enough about the organization, where its going and how it got there to understand the problem and then to create effective solutions.
• Next include a problem statement. This is the area you would summarize from for the executive summary. High level, analytic statement of overall current situation.
• State the primary issues contributing to or causing the overall problem. Follow the “rule of 3” – limit yourself to 3 issues. This will keep you at a high level. Remember that the most common categories of issues found in cases are:
o Governance
o Strategy
o Technical
o Organization and human relations
