How would you address this situation when working with others who deny and/or minimize the impact of substance use? How would you feel if this denial/minimization continued?
When it comes to the idea of problems of social impact, it is a well-known fact that substance use/alcohol has a significant impact not only for the user but also those in his/her circles .
However, what may be surprising is that those in his/her circles may help to perpetuate the problem as well. Collins speaks to this idea when family members, employers, friends etc. either deny the impact of substance use or minimizes the consequences of such use. In your role as a human service professional, how would you address this situation when working with others who deny and/or minimize the impact of substance use? How would you feel if this denial/minimization continued?
