Examine relevant academic literature and policy reports and identify a particular aspect of organised crime that is of relevance to the country.

For this assessment you will write a 3000-word policy relevant briefing paper. In addressing the subject, you will be expected to demonstrate a critical understanding of the theoretical ideas and concepts explored in the module.

Choosing a country of your choice, excluding the United Kingdom (please agree the countries in advance):

Examine relevant academic literature and policy reports and identify a particular aspect of organised crime that is of relevance to the country. It could be the most problematic or the most under-researched aspect (e.g. child sexual exploitation in Cambodia or heroin trafficking in Afghanistan).

Assess what measures the country has in place to counter that aspect of organised crime, possibly including, but not limited to, political debates on security, risk, international threats assessments, criminal law provisions and justice strategies. Are there any interventions or strategies that could be improved, in your opinion?

Based on your research and the literature review, make a set of policy-relevant recommendations to improve areas of intervention that could potentially be strengthened.

The briefing paper should also be critical of the practicality of your policy recommendations. Think in terms of complexity, time efficiency, money efficiency and societal or legal response.
