What is the organization/community group? What kind of group are they & who funds them (grassroots/NGO/Govt etc.)?

This assignment requires you to learn about a community organization that offers advocacy and promotes empowerment for people with disabilities.
You can choose to do your assignment on 1 of these 3 advocacy groups:
1. Disability Justice Network of Ontario
2. The Ontario Autism Coalition
3. Sins Invalid
You have a choice on what form of assignment you do! You can either create a 30-minute slide deck presentation with audio description narrating your slides, or write an 8 page report on the community advocacy group. You can do either of these assignments alone, or in a pair of 2 people. You will let me know: 1. What group you are doing your assignment on; 2. Slides or report; 3. Solo or as a duo – during tutorial week 8 (November 8).

Slide deck/recorded presentation: Your 30-minute slide presentation with audio description will be constructed as if you are teaching others about this advocacy group. You will undertake your research on the group and then present it through your slides and audio. You will email this slide deck to me and our GA using onedrive.
Or
Report: Your paper on the disability advocacy group should be 8 pages, and use APA citation style. You will submit this paper through blackboard.
Guiding frameworks for this assignment:
Start with big broad knowledge and slowly narrow in on what problems/issues/actions your group addresses. Then end with broad summary about how this advocacy helps empower disabled people. You are required to integrate course content (readings/lectures/media) that is relevant to your topic, as well as your own research.

Guiding questions:
What is the organization/community group? What kind of group are they & who funds them (grassroots/NGO/Govt etc.)? How does this funding affect what they do/don’t do? What are the problems that they are organizing around/addressing? What are the specific issues that they tackle? What are the tactics (the actual actions) that they use to make change? Give us a few examples of the actual strategies they have used to make change in the world. Why does their work matter to disabled people? Does the group align with disability studies frameworks? How? Has the organization addressed the impact of Coviod-19? How?

We grade the presentation and report for: cohesive organization, comprehension, engagement, content, clarity, accessibility, Disability Studies theoretical approach, and integration of course content.
