How can a data management software program assist you in analyzing and presenting your data?

Assignment 14b: Data Collection and Management Discussion

This is a graded discussion: 20 points possible

Introduction

Creswell indicates that in early qualitative research you need to organize your data collection into files that are either paper folders or computer files (Creswell 2012, 238). Organizing collected data is imperative and critical as large amounts of data will be collected during the study. The large amounts of data collected usually surprises new researchers as one 40-50 minute interview can yield around 22 pages of double spaced transcribed data. Multiply that one document times 12-15 transcripts and you have over 264-330 pages of raw data that will need to be analyzed. It is important to establish good filing and storage practices that will later facilitate good analysis of the collected data (Creswell 2012, 239).

One of the premier data collection systems used for Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods of research is a software package called Dedoose. Dedoose is a user-friendly software package designed specifically for data collection of doctoral-level research. This software package is cost-effective and provides a quality package of tools that facilitate the storage and easy usage of files, transcripts, and personal respondent data (Salmona, Michelle, Eli Lieber, & Dan Kaczynski 2020, 3-5).

Review the Dedoose.com site and spend a little time experimenting with the site. After you have become familiar with the software, discuss how this software or something similar could be beneficial in your data analysis process.
