There is no need to cite references or conduct any additional research online or at the library.

.What is the difference between sex and gender? According to West and Zimmerman, why is “doing gender” unavoidable?

Sex and gender

Do not include the actual question itself in the paper, instead put the number itself of the question you are answering, so if you’re answering #1, just put #1 and then type the rest of the answer doesn’t need to be MLA, it is just answering the questions as thoroughly as possible.

1.When, why and how did patriarchal relations of power between men and women emerge in human history?

2.What is the difference between sex and gender? According to West and Zimmerman, why is “doing gender” unavoidable?

3.Why does Goldman suggest that marriage is a vehicle for subjugating women? How does monogamy perpetuate the subjugation of women?

4.Why are equal rights like universal suffrage insufficient solutions to gender oppression? According to Goldman, what would it take to achieve a fully feminist liberation?

5.Why are Liberal solutions to queer oppression – gay marriage, don’t ask don’t tell, and hate crime laws – insufficient and even counterproductive in achieving true queer liberation?

Is there still meaningful ethnic persistence in regard to culture, social relationships, and marital choice? Does this slow or even oppose assimilation?

Sociology case study.

Following Gordon , what is assimilation? Why is it important 1) for the host society and 2) for the immigrant population?
For a case study, choose a family household that is within 2 generations of emigrating to the U.S.  Ask the following questions: Where did they come from? [be as specific as possible] Why did they leave? When did they arrive? What determined where they settled? Did they arrive as a family or in a “chain”? What resources, or “capital(s)”, did they bring with them that shaped the direction and pace of their assimilation?
Use interviews and observation to determine the extent of assimilation, paying attention to generational differences. Assess for major types or stages of assimilation: a) cultural, b) social , c) identificational, and d) marital. Because assimilation is a process that entails interrelated “stages”, it is imperative to address differences between generations.
Is there still meaningful ethnic persistence in regard to culture, social relationships, and marital choice? Does this slow or even oppose assimilation?
Is there evidence of a “new” ethnicity that limits assimilation?
How typical is this family’s experience for the ethnic group in the city or metropolitan region? Note and explain any discrepancies.
With your case study in mind, is there political resistance to the group’s assimilation? Is the group assimilating in a position of inequality and subordination?
