Describe challenges you may face in supporting your claim and persuading others to do so.

Week 7

Topic Summary Project Instructions and Worksheet

In this assignment, you will work toward achieving the following course learning outcome: Evaluate claims using relevant evidence that supports a conclusion.
Throughout the course, you have addressed a topic of interest that you chose, and you applied many critical thinking concepts that you have studied. In Week 1, you learned that there are a variety of ways to define critical thinking. Ultimately, they all relate to considering a claim, evaluating evidence, and coming to a well-reasoned conclusion.
• The claim relates to what you believe or what you are asked to believe.
• The evidence comes in many forms (research, expert opinion, experience, etc.) and is necessary to support the claim. Evaluating evidence is a necessary part of critical thinking, and assumptions and biases arise when making claims and seeking evidence.
• Ultimately, you reach a conclusion which allows you to confidently argue a claim and take action as appropriate.
Below is a quick summary of your work on your topic throughout the course. You may find it helpful to paste in notes about the work you did in each week below each bullet point. You may opt to do this as you complete your work each week or when you begin to work on this project early in Week 7. This is Step 1.
• In Week 1, you selected a topic and located an article or clip.
Topic is Emotional health

• In Week 2, you identified thinking errors thinking error related to the issue and considered how to apply inductive and deductive reasoning to it.
Thinking errors were personalization and blaming myself for specific events

• In Week 3, you identified possible research questions related to your topic: one that inferred causation and one that inferred correlation. You also selected a type of scientific research to use to explore the topic.
Pseudoscience project

• In Week 5, you located an additional resource to help you with the topic and determined if it met CARE evaluation standards.
Care project

• In Week 6, you considered how to persuade people to take action along the lines of your belief as it relates to the topic, and you consider related judgment errors.
Judgement errors

• In Week 4 and this week (Week 7), you were not required to tie your work to your topic, and you had the option to relate your topic to cognitive errors, thinking errors, and/or superstition.

With this quick review in mind, in this assignment, you will write a short paper following the next steps. Include headings in your paper so the reader (your instructor) is clear that you are following each step.

Step 2 – Summary: Use your best organizational and writing skills to summarize all of your work related to the topic beginning with your choice of a potentially controversial topic in Week 1.

Step 3 – Claim: Explain the claim (conclusion or argument) you would like to make regarding this topic. Moving forward, what action would you like to take and/or encourage others to take?

Step 4 – Evidence: Describe the additional evidence you need in order to support your claim.

Step 5 – Gathering Evidence: Explain how you will gather the evidence needed to support your claim.

Step 6 – Supporting your Claim: Describe challenges you may face in supporting your claim and persuading others to do so. Hint: some of the challenges may be thinking errors.

Step 7 – Formatting: Following the formatting requirements:
• The length should be 2-3 pages minimum.
• This is an academic paper written in your own words.
• Please double-space with 1 inch margins on all sides, and use a 12 point clear font (Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri are good choices. These instructions are Calibri.
• If you would like additional support with your writing, please visit Brandman’s Online Writing Community by clicking on “Writing Help” in the red navigation buttons on the left.
Step 8: Begin your paper below on page 3 so you can easily refer to the instructions.
Step 9: Upload your paper.

How do participants experience becoming an undergraduate student at UEL?

Research question: How do participants experience becoming an undergraduate student at UEL?

1-Students each did a 25-35min interview and shared transcripts.

2-Students asked to work with 2 transcripts for their analysis(their own and someone else’s).

3-Students asked to write in first person throughout the whole qualitative report.

4-Word count is 1500words, +/- 10%(not including interview extracts, references, abstract, tables, conclusions, etc).

5-Make sure you complete all 7 sections using headings provided.

6-Steps from BRAUN AND CLARKE

7-You need to find codes, themes then you need 3 themes to come up with and write about etc

8-Intro into qualitative research

9-You’re doing thematic analysis(TA) on the data, constructivism and critical realism(tha’s the approach we use to answer the research question and evidence for our themes) is the epistemology(how you know what you know, how is knowledge obtained) you choose.

10-Rationale you have to make yourself.

Discuss how to unify the two interviews,or make sense of them together through the thematic categories created.

Writing up your analysis

Objective

In this seminar the seminar leader will provide useful advice regarding the interpretation of the data and the final write up of the analytic process. Make sure you show up to this seminar with an analysis completed until step 5 “Defining and Naming the themes”, that way you can use this seminar to complete your analysis and work on step 6 “producing the report”

Keep in mind that the marking criteria as well as the coursework guidelines are available on moodle and teams and it would be a good idea to have them nearby for today’s seminar in case you have questions related to how to accommodate any of the required elements. In addition to this you have available the article “Thematic Analysis: Striving to Meet the Trustworthiness Criteria” by Nowell, Norris, White, and Moules (2017) on teams and moodle to support your work during this seminar. Check it out!

Activities

⦁ Make sure you are happy with the themes that you identified for your analysis. If at this point you are unsure about your themes take this opportunity to ask your seminar leader for clarifications or support regarding your themes.

⦁ Consider comments and questions regarding:

⦁ How to incorporate reflexivity to the analytic process
⦁ How to unify the two interviews,or make sense of them together through the thematic categories created
⦁ How to interpret the findings on the analyses
⦁ How to offer an explanation of the findings
⦁ How can we consider alternative explanations to the data?

Describe how a classic theory or concept in cognitive psychology applies to your selected topic.

7-2 Project Two

In your Project Two Milestone, which was due in Module Five, you selected a topic and completed an annotated bibliography of current research related to your topic. Be sure to incorporate any instructor feedback on the analysis of your sources before beginning work on this project. You will use all of the primary sources from your milestone to complete this project. Based on your topic selection and research in your milestone, create a technology and cognition blog post. You must address each of the rubric criteria listed below in about 600 to 900 words total.

Topic Summary and Theory Background

[Describe why research is being done on your selected topic.]
[Summarize how technology affects cognition for your selected topic.]
[Describe how a classic theory or concept in cognitive psychology applies to your selected topic. Examples include encoding specificity, levels of processing, late or early selection models, the multiple resources approach to attention, automaticity, and the dual-route model of language.]

Compare and Contrast Primary Research Articles
Note: To answer each of the questions below, compare and contrast two of the three primary sources you identified in your Project Two milestone. Incorporate all three primary sources in your responses.
[Compare the use of participants in two primary sources of your choice. Consider how the choice of participants is relevant to the research or how comparing the participants could inform future research or different conclusions.]
[Compare the measures, tests, and research designs used in two primary sources and compare how these measures relate to the specific domains of cognition mentioned in the articles. Consider how the research methods used are relevant to the research and how they can inform future research or different conclusions.]
[Compare the limitations identified in two primary sources of your choice. Consider how the limitations are relevant to the research methodology implemented or conclusions drawn. For example, does the methodology in one article use procedures that can be used to infer causation more precisely and accurately? Does one source have a more representative sample than the other?]

Conclusions
[Describe your conclusions about your selected topic based on the research you have analyzed.]

How have employees’ sense of job security and participation contributed to the willingness to commit to the organizational activities from past experiences?

Credibility,Dependability,and Transferability

There is an inverse relationship between the importance of job security among the employees and their time in the company (Darvishmotevali & Ali, 2020). On the other hand, employee participation enhances the change most organizations seek, especially when they take part in the key areas that enhance the needed change. Thus, one way of managing change is by ensuring that the sense of job security among the employee is high by involving them in implementing the changes in their organization (Aslam et al., 2018). The focus of this research is to highlight the main aspects of employee involvement in change management and gain insights into how change is implemented at an organizational level through the employees’ rights to job security and participation. This topic is appropriate for qualitative research, since the study will be aimed at establishing the quality of change achieved by enhancing job security and participation among the employees. The qualitative aspect is evident in the research methodology that will be used since it will involve a comparative and systemic analysis of the concepts that have been published in the available literature about the topic.

Research Questions

Does the enhancement of job security and participation among workers lead to effective organizational change management?
How do job security and participation enhance organizational change among information technology department workers?
What kind of a relationship exists between job security and participation of workers and organizational change?
How have employees’ sense of job security and participation contributed to the willingness to commit to the organizational activities from past experiences?
How do the employees perceive job security and participation concerning organizational change?

How will the therapy technique help the client with a specific disorder?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

The final research paper will be at least five (5) pages. Each student should pick any Psychological or Substance Use Disorder found within the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders- Fifth Edition (DSM-5) and provide a potential therapy technique they might use to help the client.

The paper should answer the following questions:

1.What is the disorder and its symptoms?
2.What are the risks of the disorder?
3.How does someone get the disorder?
4.What is the therapy technique?
5.How will the therapy technique help the client with a specific disorder?

This paper will require five (5) peer-reviewed sources ( APA citations).

Each student should have a title page, three (3) pages of content, and a reference page, totaling to five (5) pages.

Are the authors testing a particular theory or hypothesis?Describe the theory

The review should begin with an introduction of the article. Next, you should concisely summarize the article. Consider answering the following questions when writing the summary:

(1) What is the major research question addressed by the authors?,

(2) Are the authors testing a particular theory or hypothesis? If so, describe the theory.,

(3) Who were the participants?,

(4) How was the research conducted? (In your own words, describe the research methods involved in the study),

(5) What were the results?,

(6) Were the authors hypotheses supported? (You will typically find this in the Discussion section of the article),

(7) Did the authors mention any limitations to the study

(8) Did the authors describe any future research as a result of the current findings?

The summary should be around 2 pages in length.

Tie in the article with your future career in education
The final portion of the review should include evaluative comments about the study. Consider addressing these questions in this portion of the review: How applicable was the study conducted? For example, how will the study’s findings be relevant in your future career as an educator?

Review Format
Papers should be typed, double-spaced, and follow APA format. However, you do not need to include section headings (i.e. abstract, introduction, methods, discussion).

Identify and define each relevant concept, and explain why the psychological concepts you focus on are or will be relevant to your career and your future life.

Psychology In My Life

General assignment details + self-created outline included in file attached

Your paper will make use of two sources. The first source is your textbook itself. You will select FOUR PSYCHOLOGY concepts/topics from at least two different chapters to focus on in your paper. The second source is an article from a refereed (peer-reviewed) journal (preferably an American Psychological Association journal published within the last five years) which addresses one of the psychological concepts or topics relevant to your intended career. You will want to find an article which is research (data-driven) based and which uses the experimental or correlational method. The article must have the traditional sections associated with a research study (abstract, introduction (literature review), methods, results, discussion, references). That means no reviews of literature or other types of articles.

You must reference the appropriate chapters, identify and define each relevant concept, and explain why the psychological concepts you focus on are or will be relevant to your career and your future life. You will be expected to use specific examples of how the concepts will be relevant to your career. You must be specific about how it will benefit you in your career.

For the journal article, you will be integrating the article and its content into your paper to highlight its significance to your chosen field of study rather than merely citing it. You will be using the journal article to discuss its relationship to one of the concepts or topics you have selected as important to your career. Note that you will be discussing the article and the implication of its findings for your career in some detail, not merely mentioning it in passing.

What does this lab suggest in the role of top-down processing when reading? What does it reveal about a “web of concepts”?

Module Question

These labs are all about recognizing elements of your language quickly and accurately. We tend to think of reading as a passive skill because it’s automatized. What do you think these labs tell us about what needs to happen for artificial intelligence (think Alexa and Siri) to recognize and process language as quickly and efficiently as we do? What do you think we are still better at doing compared to AI when it comes to language?
