SUBJECT: Mental Health in Military and its effects

1. Discuss mental health in the military and how mental disorders affect military personnel, different units and the army in general.

2. Facts:

Recently, there has been an increase in mental disorders among people from diverse occupations, military personnel included. Mental illness entails both the emotional, social, and psychological well-being of an individual. Due to the nature of military work, most military individuals, especially the army, constantly face mental illness.

b. As for 2020, above 50 percent of the military veterans were diagnosed with more than one mental issue. According to research, the most common mental illness in the military includes anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder . Additionally, other conditions like alcohol abuse are common for most individuals in the army. In most cases, mental disorders develop after dangerous missions in wars zone areas such as Iran, Iran, or Afghanistan. Moreover, studies affirm that more than 10 percent of individuals from deadly war missions have experienced traumatic brain injury.

c. In 2020, Suicide Data reported that more than 20 veterans committed suicide per day due to mental illness and substance abuse. This condition can affect the quality of their work, reduce performance, and endanger their lives. Furthermore, mental conditions like mood disorders and substance abuse disorders lead to impaired judgment, affecting the operation of the mission. Besides, mental issues affect the physical health of the military personnel, causing an inability to perform military duties. The cause of mental issues in military personnel includes the complicated nature of military work, lack of sleep, non-nutritious food, and associated traumatic events. However, an increased effort has been made through developing hospitals and creating a friendly working environment that will help reduce the surging number of mental conditions in the Army.

List the descriptive statistics for your data.  List any charts which accompany them. Paste in the t-test results table for your data

We have reached the point in the class where you will now be asked to conduct a mock study and write up the results as a mini-paper.  We are going to share these mini-reports with each other as a discussion so everybody will be able to see each others’ examples and therefore have a better idea of how to run statistical tests and write up the results.
Brief explanation of the methods explain the sample size, sampling method, and measurement methods you might use to have collected the mock data for your study.  Use about 20-30 data points.
explain the descriptive statistics and charts which you might use to first analyze the data and check the sample for outliers and normality
list your choice of alpha level and explain that choice.  Will you use the standard p<.05 level or a different criterion and why?
