Briefly describe the plot of the episode or situation within the episode in enough detail, so someone who hasn’t seen the show before can understand.

After reviewing the theories of personality, think about one of your favorite TV characters or a TV character you find particularly interesting. After choosing your TV character, focus on a specific episode. Briefly describe the plot of the episode or situation within the episode in enough detail, so someone who hasn’t seen the show before can understand. Explain the character’s behavior in terms of one or more of the major personality theories. You can choose characters with “healthy” personalities or those with maladaptive or negative personalities. Be creative in your application of theory!
Be sure to make connections between your ideas and conclusions and the research, concepts, terms, and theory we are discussing this week.

Describe the two tests available to the parents, making sure you include advantages and disadvantages of each. Make a recommendation for each parent and support your decision with your knowledge of each approach.

There are probably as many definitions of intelligence as there are researchers studying the concept, but most include the ability to learn, apply knowledge and adapt to new situations, problem solve and reason. Intellectual aptitude in school-aged children has traditionally been based on the idea that intelligence is represented by a single, general factor. However, the fundamental question as to whether a single test score can accurately reflect the complexities of a child’s thinking has been debated, and alternative, broader definitions has been offered in the last few decades.

You work for a private company that provides intelligence testing for children. You have two types of intelligence tests from which clients can select: the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children which is a traditional measure of intelligence, and The Sternberg Triarchic Abilities Test , which is based on Sternberg’s information processing, triarchic theory of intelligence.

Two parents come to you for a meaningful measurement of intelligence for their child. The first parent, Mrs. Anderson, is looking for an intelligence test score for placement. Her child will be entering 4th grade soon and she is looking for an intelligence test that will help determine if her child qualifies for entry into an advanced class of gifted children. The school system requires that a child be in the 95th percentile to qualify.

The second parent is Mrs. Letterman. Her son, also a third-grader, is struggling in school and performs about average on traditional tests of intelligence. However, the teacher told Mrs. Letterman that her son excels on projects that require nontraditional ways of approaching a question. Mrs. Letterman would like to gain a better understanding of her son’s cognitive thinking process and intellectual abilities so that she can work with the teacher to enhance the academic environment for her son.

Describe the two tests available to the parents, making sure you include advantages and disadvantages of each. Make a recommendation for each parent and support your decision with your knowledge of each approach.

To help ensure the auto-feedback system will function properly, your response must contain a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 1000 words, though individual prompts or your instructor may provide a more precise target range for word count. Your response will be automatically reviewed by the system, and you will receive your grade after your instructor reviews and returns the scores. Your response should not contain in-text parenthetical citations or other special headers or formatting.

Discuss your views about animals being used in research projects that are intended to benefit humans. Explain the factors that influence your personal opinions.

Psychologist B
As a graduate student, I witnessed many instances of cruelty to animals in various research projects. Yet, of the many experiments done on animals, only a few contribute to important medical or psychological research. A vast number of experiments are used for commercial purposes: to test new shampoos, cosmetics, food additives, or detergents.
People have to realize that species vary, and tests performed on one species do not necessarily yield the same results on another. For example, the use of thalidomide by pregnant women resulted in deformities in many of their babies. Yet giving thalidomide to pregnant laboratory cats, rats, monkeys, hamsters, and chickens failed to result in deformities in the baby animals. Similarly, if the results of the effects of penicillin on guinea pigs had been applied to humans, penicillin would never have been used on people.
There can be no doubt that animals involved in psychological research suffer. The suffering research animals endure should encourage researchers to find alternative methods for studying various psychological issues. One cannot say that animal research can never be justified. If a single experiment involving animals could cure a major disease, then such use could possibly be justified. However, this situation is rare and almost nonexistent.

Thinking Skills:

⦁ Discuss your views about animals being used in research projects that are intended to benefit humans. Explain the factors that influence your personal opinions.
