What would a Roman stoic tell you,living today,how to incorporate contemplation of death into your life in a healthy way?

Directions: In your essay Assume You Are Answering Like a Stoic. Your opinion means: Your Opinion as a ROMAN STOIC. No Talk of hope and faith in an afterlife. This is about REASON vs EMOTION. Talk about this world. Why death is important to us in this world. Why the afterlife/death is for the living. Talk about the virtues of the Stoics, that is the answer to the question.

1. You are answering what would a Stoic tell you, the articles below are not all you will need. The answer is in the virtues of the ancient Roman Stoics (that is a hint) Quote the ancient Stoics and cite sources.

You must create an original descriptive Epic poem, similar to those of Sappho and Homer in Topics Poets in Ancient Greece. This is about a time when you struggled to overcome adversity and emerge as a hero, something that made you who you are, overcoming the odds. (examples: beating a disease, moving a mountain, completing boot camp, tale from childhood that impacted you where you had to rely on yourself, bodily transformation, achievement in sport, process of bringing a life into the world, etc). 1000 word minimum not including sources, quotes, or titles.

To fully answer this project you must use Sappho, Homer, and the vison of Audre Lorde (cite them a works cited is needed even if you do not quote) Know how the poets understand the Greek hero and the heroic

Reflective Essay- Discuss Mary Wigman’s role in Nazi Germany

A reflective Essay should a thoughtful, substantial response of 1.5-2 pages plus a cited references page. I want you to bring your own perspective, your own research interests, and your own voice to the essay.

Discuss Mary Wigman’s role in Nazi Germany. She was far more complicit (accommodating to the questionable act of following Hitler) than Laban or Jooss. How might this association (coupled with her also being a female artist) place her in a darker light,even though she eventually turns against the Nazi regime? Can you think of any other tragic characters from United States’ history, who have been on the ‘wrong side of history’? Would this modern dance pioneer be better known had she not fallen in step with the Nazis? How does our memory become affected? What does it do to the art they have left behind? Consider all these points when drafting your responses. Remember, the body/dance is different than visual art. Years ago, we could not record live performance the way we can now. Memories were the main way of transference. Hence, propaganda becomes embedded in our thoughts and is able to live well beyond the normal life span of an ephemeral work.

This assignment supports the following unit objectives:

Compare and contrast a soul-based theory of the self (as illustrated by Descartes) with a psychological-based theory of the self (like that of Locke) and a skeptical view of the self (like that of Hume).

Articulate how memory relates to our definition of the self.

Articulate the identity theory of Locke.

Explain the connection between personhood and “consciousness” as articulated by Locke.

Compare Descartes and Locke’s views on personhood and guilt.

Choose any two of the philosophers that we read in Unit 2. Recap each philosopher’s main view about consciousness/the self/personal identity. Explain at least one difference between the two philosophers’ views and state which view you prefer. Then, offer an argument (i.e., evidence) against the view that you reject.

Start with making a careful summary of two of the philosophers we read in Unit 2. What were their main concepts and definitions,what were their distinctions?How did they imagine that the self was different from the brain or different from the mind? Restate their theory and include “direct quotes”, specific references from their work.
