Mercy Killing Ethics

It is late at night and two police officers, Smith and Jones, are involved in a high-speed chase that has taken them several miles from a metropolitan area. Officer Smith, who is driving, loses control of the car, and the car rolls several times before coming to a stop. He is trapped in the car, and the car has caught fire. Officer Jones, who suffered only minor injuries, has called for help and is desperately struggling to free the driver. As the fire worsens, Officer Smith begs Officer Jones to shoot him in the head so he will not suffer the agonizing pain and horror of burning to death. It is late at night, no one is around to assist, and both officers realize that it will be several minutes before help arrives.

Step 2: Write a 520+ word paper answering the following prompts:

Using one theory that you have studied that you agree with and one theory that you disagree with, describe how Officer Jones would act in each case.

Describe your thoughts on the situation. Expound not only on this situation but on the concepts you are reading about this week.

Be specific and give examples, using at least three outside references, to buttress your argument. Cite all sources in APA format.

What are some barriers and challenges to the transition of care from one level to another? Describe at least two. Examples: transition from hospital to primary care follow-up or long-term care to home care.

Care Transitions

What are some barriers and challenges to the transition of care from one level to another? Describe at least two. Examples: transition from hospital to primary care follow-up or long-term care to home care.
Give an example from your experience or the literature of a procedure aimed at improving the process of care transitions. What impact do you suppose it will have on patient safety?

Which patients on six specific units have fall-risk assessments?Explain the problem in detail and support the need to solve the problem with scholarly literature.

Think about an information-management problem that could be resolved with a database. You will use this problem and suggested database as the foundation to build your database over the next eight weeks.

Explain the problem in detail and support the need to solve the problem with scholarly literature . Think about a situation for which you wish to capture data over a long period of time and for which you want to study various relationships. Provide three questions that you would like to see answered via database support.

For example, in a database of patient falls for the entire hospital, you might ask the following questions.
• How many units had patient falls over the last year?
• On a specific unit with a high number of falls, what was the nurse/patient ratio at the time of each fall?
• Which patients on six specific units have fall-risk assessments?

Avoid questions about database functions or capabilities or how data is obtained. For this course focus on who, what, when, where, or how aspects of the problem you want to solve. Invite feedback from your peers on your questions and be prepared to provide them with feedback as well.

What are health risks disproportionately higher for the child population you selected? What supports could you offer the family through local or national organizations to address your selected population’s health risks?

Review the Case Example on page 260 in Chapter 12 in your text. Using the skills, you have already gained from previous courses, what would you say to the nurse who told Mrs. L, “I am sure that delaying your lunch until we get you settled won’t hurt you a bit?” How can the nurse who made these statements improve her biases: “Isn’t it sad that all she can seem to focus on is her lunch? She needs to be on a strict diet.”

Almost half the children living in the U. S. live in poverty. Social determinants of childhood health often lead to adverse health outcomes in children and across the life span.
Conduct a literature search to locate a journal article related to children living in poverty, maltreated children, LGBTQ children, or immigrant children.

What are health risks disproportionately higher for the child population you selected? What supports could you offer the family through local or national organizations to address your selected population’s health risks? What factors influence your motivation to provide culturally sensitive care to your chosen population?

Describe where, if at all, EBP appears . Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not.

This student was asked to write about the following:
When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.
In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.
Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website.
Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.

Post a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears . Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide examples.
