A chapter on qualitative data analysis_case study_interview data

From the perspectives of leaders and teachers, how do people working at schools in Saudi Arabia “make sense” of the Tatweer policy?
This question explores what the leaders and teachers think of the Tatweer policy. It will also elaborate how they “make sense” of the policy in their settings. Given that policy can be enacted differently by different people , this question will investigate Tatweer as both a process and outcome that undergoes multiple interpretations in various settings.

Specifically, this question will investigate: what is happening in the leaders’ and teachers’ mind about Tatweer policy? How do they construct meaning? How do they explain and rationalize the policy? How do they justify the policy? What is their interpretation of, and attitude towards, the policy?

What were the interviewees’ expectations and understandings of the Tatweer policy? In particular, What their thoughts about this Tatweer policy in advance?

How might standardized testing be beneficial for you in your work with children? How might standardized testing hinder your ability to teach?

Differing View on Standard Testing

Everyone seems to have an opinion on standardized testing. In early childhood education, many teachers feel that these assessments are not developmentally appropriate to use with young children. Regardless of what your opinion is, “the use of standardized testing is increasing, and new instruments are being developed in response to pressures for accountability for the quality of education and minimum competency standards for students and teachers” . As leaders, it is important for us to know our own view of standardized testing, to be open to the views of others around the world regarding standardized testing, and to understand the varying ways in which standardized tests are being used in early childhood education.
There are three parts to this discussion, so in order to get the most out of discussion, it is important that you do not jump ahead in completing each of the steps.
Step 1: Examine your current view of standardized testing. Some points to consider are:
Do you agree or disagree with standardized testing in early childhood education? Why or why not?
How might standardized testing be beneficial for you in your work with children?
How might standardized testing hinder your ability to teach?

How can evaluating an organization’s values be helpful in regard to becoming a culturally sensitive and inclusive workplace?

Tenets of Diversity in Nonprofit Organizational Management

Chapter 9 of your text, Developing Nonprofit and Human Service Leaders discusses the need to expand the definition diversity from only recognizing observable phenotypical differences to less visible differences like affiliations or orientations. What does diversity mean to you?

Nonprofit human service organizations emphasize diversity inclusion and sensitivity when dealing with their client populations but often neglect to be inclusive and sensitive to the diversity of their own workforce. The authors of Developing Nonprofit and Human Service Leaders suggest that “diversity should be one of the guiding principles of a nonprofit organization.”

Why is it so important to enhance diversity in human service organizations?
In what ways can leaders unwittingly oppress employees who have been historically discriminated against?

To succeed in managing a workforce that is increasingly diverse, human service leaders will need to strive for cultural proficiency and acknowledge individual and group identity differences and similarities among populations in the United States.

What are some things managers and leaders in the workplace should know?
What do you see as solutions to decrease barriers to accepting workplace diversity?
How can leaders and managers assist employees in overcoming and reducing preconceived thoughts about those outside of the dominant group?
How can evaluating an organization’s values be helpful in regard to becoming a culturally sensitive and inclusive workplace?
