Identify the new cultural norms within the police culture and identify what new practices are having positive or negative impacts on police morale and/or community relations.

Police Culture in a Changing Society

Your research proposal will be on evaluating the current police culture in a changing society. How do the police now view society? Try to identify the new cultural norms within the police culture and identify what new practices are having positive or negative impacts on police morale and/or community relations. Does the thin blue line still have the same meaning it use too? It used to mean police were the line between order and chaos. Does the line now mean division; US vs THEM?

Final Proposal Project:

Find the rubric attached.

You are required to complete the term project, which is a research proposal written in an APA Style. The project should have at least 8-10 pages of substance not counting the cover and reference page. Please include a Cover Page, an abstract and a list of references. The research proposal you write in this course will NOT be sent to the IRB for approval. This is because you will not be conducting actual research for the purpose of this class. You will, however, gain an insight as to how to write a research proposal.

This is a research proposal. Meaning, you are proposing new, and original, research of a large group of people. This research gathers new data, new previously unknown information. It is not a research paper, but a proposal to convince a university to allow you to conduct research or that their is the need for the research.

The research proposal will include the following:

Title page
Abstract (100-120 words)
Introduction
Problem Statement
Purpose Statement
Hypothesis
Literature Review and Definitions included in the research
Research methods/design
References
Appendices – as needed (annotated bibliography, example consent form, example survey if used)

The research proposal (Term Project) must be in a Word Document (.doc). You will be required to use at least five scholarly references.

Follow APA Style guidelines.

Make sure that you are using the course-writing rubric to use as a checklist so that you write a solid paper.

Do not include quotes in your work. The student needs to display good critical thinking skills and not a string of quotes written by published authors. Your proposal is what is needed for a successful research project to be conducted in the future.

How would you recruit and involve community and business sector partners in preparedness and response programs and activities?

Are the corpse and the shotgun admissible at trial? Why or why not?

Driving problems

In the dark ages (before Peyton) my wife was driving to work one morning. She was stopped by a police officer on Route 128. When she asked why she was stopped, the officer informed her that her back license plate needed to be secured by three screws, but she only had two (there is no such law).

Okay, that part is true. Now suppose the following. When the officer approached the car, he couldn’t help but notice that there was a headless corpse on the backseat, along with an illegal sawed-off shotgun.

Are the corpse and the shotgun admissible at trial? Why or why not?

Examine how the project will be useful in the job market,or if you desire to further your education.

Capstone Component 3: Personal and Professional Reflection

For the third component of your capstone, you will write a personal and professional reflection looking back on your experiences building your capstone project. Throughout this program in criminal justice, you have compiled final project work and professional documentation in your personal ePortfolio. In this third component, you will document examples from your previous work to demonstrate that you have the knowledge, skills, abilities, and disposition to take the next step in your career as a criminal justice professional.

Envision this component as a personal reflection on the capstone and your experience in the criminal justice program as a whole. This component is not about evaluating the capstone itself but rather your experience with the capstone project. Your reflection should discuss your strengths and also any problems you encountered while completing the capstone project. You may include discussions of unforeseen problems and obstacles and any unexpected surprises that occurred during the completion of your ePortfolio and your capstone experience. For instance, in the context of the capstone, you could discuss what you did (or intended to do), what worked well, what challenges you faced, and what you would change or do differently to make your experience better.

Finally, examine how the project will be useful in the job market,or if you desire to further your education. You are expected to support the thoughts and claims you make in your reflection with references to your ePortfolio.

Some of the issues that you could address in this final component of this capstone may include the following:

Overall, what was your capstone experience like?

What feedback was most useful to you during the process of compiling and refining the contents of your ePortfolio?

What overall advice would you give to assure that this new system of sentencing is used appropriately?

RP A

Today we have transitioned from an either/ or choice between the use of incarceration, or the use of probation, to the use of graduated sanctions, affording us a wide array of possible sentencing options, as referred to in the text.

What are your views about this more recent way of criminal sanctioning?

What overall advice would you give to assure that this new system of sentencing is used appropriately?
