Why is your audience reading your document

You are writing your memo–an internal company document–to your colleagues.  Our textbook on pages 94-95 discusses three categories of readers.

How would you describe each category of the reader in your new position? What are the three levels within your colleagues or maybe beyond your colleagues but still professionals? Answer in bullets, one bullet for each audience type.

Explain what you know about your audience. Answer in three-bullet form.

Who are your readers

Our textbook offers a series of questions to help you better profile your reader, in this case, the reader of your letter.

Use the assignment description of who your audience is for your letter, and profile your letter reader based on three of the seven areas listed in the textbook on pages 93 and 94. The goal is to think about this hostile audience more deeply, so you can draft a better letter. Select three of the seven and explain what you know about your audience. Answer in three-bullet form.

For instance, if you chose to think about your reader’s job responsibilities you’d start a bullet with that label and explain what you know about the audience’s job responsibilities.

What’s Wrong with my Poster? Explain to your friend what features were needed for a poster and how she could have modified her content to fit the needs of a poster.

Whats wrong with my poster?

TFIRST OPEN THE ATTACHMENT. THEN AFTER STUDYING THIS “Poster” READ THIS POSTER SCENARIO: Your friend earned a C- or 70% on a poster she created. The feedback stated, “a poster is not a letter. Your poster looks like you nearly cut and pasted a letter onto a word document, added some color, and a few banners, and decide you’d created a poster.” You feel bad for your good friend; generally, she does good work, so you decided to take a look. Open the attachment to view the “poster.” Unfortunately, you agree with the grade and analysis. Your friend is correct: no date or signature was included; no letter-like margins are there; it’s error-free and has a scan code on it. But you see problems.

In the discussion What’s Wrong with my Poster? Explain to your friend what features were needed for a poster and how she could have modified her content to fit the needs of a poster. Revisit pages 14 and 15 for a refresher on the qualities of a well-crafted technical document and for our purposes a poster.
