Are there any differences in the percentage of males and the percentage of females in each of the four BMI categories?
Body Mass Index
Part 2 (150 points) consists of working with Excel to test specific hypotheses concerning BMI values in order to answer the research questions below and prepare your report. Instructions for the meaning of these statistical tests, how to set them up, and how to use Excel are contained in the lecture videos in the Module 6 Lesson. SEPARATELY UPLOAD A WORD DOCUMENT AND AN UPDATED EXCEL SPREADSHEET (INCLUDING GRAPHS) IN THE MODULE 6 ASSIGNMENT.
BODY MASS INDEX RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. Is there any difference between the mean BMI of males and females? [DO A T-TEST ON THE DATA SORTED BY GENDER]
2. Is there any correlation (positive or negative) between BMI and age?
(a) For males, is there any correlation between BMI and age?
(b) For females, is there any correlation between BMI and age?
[MAKE TWO SCATTERPLOTS OF THE DATA, ADD A TRENDLINE (with “display equation on chart” and “display R-squared value on chart”) AND DO TWO CORRELATION TESTS ON THE DATA SORTED BY GENDER]
3. Are there any differences in the percentage of males and the percentage of females in each of the four BMI categories? [MAKE A BAR GRAPH OF THE NUMBER OF MALES AND FEMALES IN EACH CATEGORY AND MAKE A VISUAL COMPARISON].
Compare your answer to the conclusion for Question 1 and comment if they match or if they contradict each other.
4. Is there any correlation between height and weight?
(a) For males, is there a correlation between height and weight?
(b) For females, is there a correlation between height and weight?
[MAKE TWO SCATTERPLOTS OF THE DATA, ADD A TRENDLINE (with “display equation on chart” and “display R-squared value on chart”) AND DO TWO CORRELATION TESTS]
Deliverables (TO SUBMIT AS PART 2 OF THE REPORT, WORD + EXCEL FILES)
1. Your Excel spreadsheet (that you did, not somebody else’s) with data sorts, graphs, and all statistical outputs;
2. A formal listing of the statistical tests, including all five parts, for Research Questions 1, 2, and 4 above;
3. A half-page to one-page, double-spaced description of the meaning of BMI (including why it is defined as weight/height2), how it relates to disease, and if it is a useful measure of obesity based on the opinions of people you read online. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE, AND CITE THE SOURCES YOU USED USING MLA OR APA STYLES YOU LEARNED ABOUT IN ENGLISH CLASS.
4. A one-page, double-spaced typed summary description (using words) of the results for your tests with
answers to the four research questions.
INCLUDE COMMENTS ON WHY THESE DO OR DO NOT MAKE ANY SENSE.
