Adherence and perceptions of mental health in Black clients behavioral health clinic
Black patients have historically been mistreated by mental health institutions, which has likely negatively affected their perceptions on mental health and adherence to medical advice. As a consequence, black patients may have higher readmission rates to mental health clinics. Indeed, their readmission rates are on the rise . This paper will examine the following questions: Do patients who are black have low adherence, do they have poor perceptions of mental health, is adherence related to perceptions of mental health, and are adherence and perception associated with the readmission rate?
