What is the primary purpose of prison, and how can this be best achieved?
This is a very general question. That is intentional so that it allows you to tackle it from the direction you want.
To get started – read and take notes as you go so you can work this up later
Marking Criteria
1100 words.
Make your points based on reading material posted on Moodle. Marks are going here for doing the readings on Moodle.
Reference where the points come from. Do it like this: (O’Brien, 2018) for a general point from a chapter. (O’Brien 2018: 218) where you are referring to a specific point or quote. Referencing is showing off – so don’t be shy about this.
Read at least 4 chapters well, and demonstrate that you understand the work in its entirety (i.e. not just grabbing a point from here and there)
Keep quotes to a minimum – paraphrase. Lots of quotes looks lazy. So,put the points from the readings into your own words, and assemble the evidence and analyses from the readings into your own argument. Good writing is: saying the most you can, as briefly as you can, as clearly as you can.
Bibliography at the end, listing all of the details about the work referred to. Revise how to do this – but the basics are:
Lastname of author, Firstname (year of publication) Title, Place of publication if a book, Publisher if a book, Title of journal if a journal, Edition and volume and page numbers if a journal.
